The 'finger' command is used to get information about a specific
user on a local or remote system. Things like full name, telephone
number and email address.

It also normally displays the contents of the '.projects' and
'.plan' files in the users directory. The user can put anything he
wants into this files. Sometimes it contains useful information
about the user's activity, serves as a kind of microblogging or all
manner of humor.

<== Your own finger ==>

I would like to see more people using their finger service. Most of
the pubnixes and tildes have some kind of finger service set up on
their system. In fact it's more and more common in the smolnet
community to have a finger address.

For example I use my personal finger address as a kind of /now page
where I put in what I'm currently doing in the mid term. But you
can put anything you want in it.
